Born in Calgary, Canada, Emily Hughes is currently studying at Zurich University of the Arts in Zurich, Switzerland and also studied at Tokyo University of the Arts in Tokyo, Japan.

She paints miniatures, no larger than an inch, to several-meter-long tapestries. Her work often includes playful elements, in subject or staging, with bright colours, patterns, and thematic lighting. She typically works with objects, places, and people from her life. Emily has exhibited in Canada and internationally in Switzerland and Japan.
